Wheaton can be found where Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota meet, and is centrally located to experience the unique geography of the Red River Valley, Continental Divide, and long-melted glacial Lake Agassiz.
Although many of Wheaton’s jobs are agricultural, the town hosts countless successful, entrepreneurial ventures. The Wheaton Economic Development Authority supports both large and small businesses.
Wheaton offers walleye fishing, goose, pheasant, duck, and deer hunting – and, more recently, turkey and coyote. Blogger Ivars Krafts has captured awesome pictures of the wildlife outside of Wheaton, featured on his blog.

Notice to Residents
Ordinance 651.02: Obstructing of Streets of the Wheaton Municipal Code prohibits depositing leaves or grass clippings upon city streets. Depositing leaves or grass clippings upon city streets prevents proper drainage of storm water, obstructs storm drains and increases maintenance costs to the storm sewer system. Please respect city streets and refrain from this practice. A $25.00 administrative fine may be given to mowers who violate this Ordinance, #651.02. Violation of any provision of this ordinance shall be a misdemeanor punishable pursuant to W.M.C. 005.05. Thank you.
Dear Residents:
Please take a moment to confirm that the sump pump in your home is not draining into the sanitary sewer system. Sump pumps must be diverted to the curb or out to the yard.
Ordinance 410.06, Sec. 1 states: No person(s) shall discharge or cause to be discharged any unpolluted water such as storm water, ground water, roof runoff, surface drainage, or non-contact cooling water to any sanitary sewer.
Any person found in violation of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and on conviction thereof, shall be fined in the amount not exceeding $100.00 for each violation.
Sanitary sewer systems are designed to carry wastewater from toilets, dishwashers, sinks, and showers in homes and businesses. Water diverted by a sump pump, on the other hand, belongs in the storm sewer system or on the surface of the ground – not in the sanitary sewers. Improperly connected sump pumps allow unpolluted water to flow into the sanitary sewer system, significantly increasing treatment costs and equipment failures.
Your immediate attention to this matter is appreciated. Please contact our office if you have any questions!
Thank you,
THE CITY OF WHEATON
